Sanctuary cable run

A decision page, not another cart. Measure the path from the camera to the booth before you buy a cable. About 25 ft of passive HDMI is enough in a short room. A longer copper run wants Active HDMI. Fiber waits until copper flakes, electrical noise is real, or the building wants plenum.

The solo cart is one volunteer Sunday. Seat-count shopping is the under ~150 cart. Pastor mic into the computer is Audio first on Sunday. Throw, seats, and the skip list are First livestream kit for a small church.

Where the cable goes

The length depends on the path, not on a brochure speed. Measure with a tape, including the drop down the wall and a little slack. Do not guess from the center aisle.

Back wall to a booth switcher. This is the usual small-church run. PTZOptics Move SE on HCM-1, HDMI into an ATEM Mini. The cable leaves the camera at the mount and lands on an HDMI input in the booth. Switcher choices: compare switchers.

Laptop next to the camera. USB into the computer, and the computer sits with the camera. You do not need 50 ft of HDMI for that hop. If the laptop stays in the booth, the long piece is still HDMI into a capture path, then a short USB hop at the computer.

Portable box or capture card in the booth. A YoloBox or a Magewell still wants HDMI from the camera when the box sits in the booth. Same length rules. If the box sits next to the camera, the run is short.

NDI or PoE, no HDMI to the booth. Hold the cable. That network is a later job. One volunteer Sunday already tells you not to start there. When that later job is real: When NDI is worth it for a small church.

The cable listings sit on the cables hub.

When about 25 ft of passive is enough

The path is about 25 ft or less, the route is simple, and a passive HDMI already holds a stable 1080p picture. Stop. Do not buy a 50 ft active cable for a 15 ft desk hop.

The short-run buy is Premium HDMI, 25 ft passive Certified Premium. Buy it only after you measured a short path. Active HDMI stays the long copper cable. It is the wrong buy for this short room.

A short room is not a reason to join two short cables with a coupler. One cable, camera port to switcher port.

When the run wants 50 ft Active HDMI

Past about 25 to 35 ft, cheap passive HDMI starts to flake. Snow, sparkles, or a picture that dies after the service has already started. That is the dropout volunteers blame on the camera.

The default buy for that copper run is Active HDMI, 50 ft. It is the recommend cable on this site for a back-wall PTZ to an ATEM when the measured path is about 40 to 50 ft of copper and the ceiling is not a plenum problem.

It is directional. SOURCE at the camera. DISPLAY at the switcher. Swap the ends and the picture dies. CL3 if the run goes in the wall. Leave slack. A 50 ft cable does not reach a 51 ft corner.

A 1080p Move SE does not need a 48Gbps Ultra High Speed cable. Stable 1080p on Sunday is the job.

When fiber AOC is the hold

Hold C2G AOC. It is the fiber step-up, not the first cable.

Buy it when one of these is already true:

Do not buy fiber first because it sounds more professional. Most small sanctuaries do not need plenum fiber when Active HDMI already holds Sunday.

The AOC is directional too. SOURCE at the camera, DISPLAY at the switcher. Fiber kinks more easily than copper. Leave a service loop at HCM-1. If the source cannot power the optics, this cable has an optional USB-C power pigtail on the display end. That pigtail is part of this cable. It is not a separate injector brick in the ceiling.

Pitfalls on a volunteer Sunday

Cheap long HDMI. A no-name 50 ft passive cable looks fine in the closet and snows on Sunday. Do not “fix” it with a second cheap cable of the same length, or with a pile of adapters. Step up to Active HDMI, or to C2G AOC only when the fiber reasons above are real.

Power injectors. A wall-wart HDMI injector, or a powered booster hidden above the ceiling, is another box a substitute will unplug. The Active HDMI booster is in the cable. The only extra power this site calls out is the AOC’s own USB-C pigtail, and only if you already bought fiber and the picture needs it. Keep a USB-C to USB-A jumper in the booth bag for that case. Do not add a mystery injector to rescue a bad pull.

Conduit. Measure before you pull. Do not stretch the cable around one more corner. Do not kink the plug at the PTZ HDMI port. A service loop, not a hard bend. Do not force fiber through a conduit that already has sharp elbows you cannot see. If the path is in the wall, use a CL3 jacket. If the path is return air, that is the plenum case above. Pull on Saturday, with a person at each end.

Across the aisle on Sunday. Do not run the cable across the center aisle at 9:40. People trip, chairs roll, and the picture dies during the welcome. If the permanent path is not done, run along the side or the back wall before people arrive, and tape it flat. Do not make a weekly aisle pull the plan.

Label the ends. Before the cable disappears into a wall, label both ends so a substitute can read them. Camera end: SOURCE and the camera name. Booth end: DISPLAY and the switcher name (ATEM, or whatever box it actually hits). Direction matters on Active HDMI and on the AOC. Test on Saturday for several minutes, not for ten seconds. A dropout that takes time will not show up in a glance.

What to hold or skip

Honest verdict

Recommend measuring the path first. About 25 ft or less: Premium HDMI, 25 ft passive. Longer copper from a back-wall Move SE on HCM-1 to an ATEM Mini: Active HDMI 50 ft. That 50 ft recommend stays.

Hold C2G AOC until copper flakes, EMI is real, or code wants plenum. Do not buy fiber first.

Skip daisy-chained adapters, a power injector to save a cheap long HDMI, and a cable across the aisle on Sunday. Skip a new cart.

All three cables: cables hub. Where the HDMI lands: compare switchers. Dated carts, not a new total: one volunteer Sunday and under ~150 seats. Pastor mic first: Audio first on Sunday.
