Elgato Cam Link
Laptop HDMI-to-USB capture for OBS. Cam Link 4K is the cart. Hold. Not a cut-bus.
Why this is here: the laptop capture dongle beside Magewell. It is not a camera. It is not a cut-bus.
Do we buy a Cam Link instead of ATEM? A room that needs buttons should not. ATEM Mini Pro ISO stays recommend. This page is the hold for Cam Link 4K, one HDMI camera into a USB webcam for OBS.
Cam Link Pro is a different box. Four HDMI inputs on a PCIe card inside a Windows desktop. Elgato’s FAQ says it needs a desktop PCIe slot and is not compatible with laptops, and it does not work on Mac. It is not a dual-HDMI laptop capture. Elgato listed it out of stock on 2026-09-22. Do not buy Pro for the volunteer laptop path.
Who it is for
Workflow, not the Elgato name. One clean HDMI into a laptop is the useful number. Whether that same HDMI still has to feed a monitor is the other one.
| Workflow | What you actually get | Fit |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI camera or switcher program into a laptop running OBS, and you do not need a loop | Cam Link 4K: one unencrypted HDMI, USB 3.0, no drivers | Hold the page. This is the only row where Cam Link 4K is the buy. |
| That HDMI must also reach a monitor | Cam Link 4K’s spec table lists no HDMI output | Buy Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus. It has a loop. |
| 2 to 4 HDMI, and a substitute needs a lit button | A cut-bus | Hold. Buy ATEM Mini Pro ISO. |
| Four HDMI into a Windows desktop, and there is no laptop | Cam Link Pro, PCIe, out of stock on Elgato | Not this cart. Most church booths are laptops. |
| One or two cameras already fine as USB webcams | A dongle you will not use | Skip. That money belongs on a mic or a camera. |
If you only buy one switcher for a small church, buy the Pro ISO. Open that page first. If the booth is already a laptop in OBS and you only need one HDMI in, Cam Link 4K is the cheap hold inside the capture family. Magewell stays the hold when you need a loop, SRT, or NDI HX.
Volunteer skill
- Cam Link 4K into OBS: Sunday-viable after one plug-in. Find the USB video device and leave it.
- USB 3.0 only, Type A or Type C. Elgato says not to put it on a USB hub.
- 4K60 is only on the latest unit, model number 20GAM9903, and only as MJPG. Earlier Cam Link 4K units stop at 4K30. A 1080p60 church stream does not need the new unit.
- The dongle does not power the camera. A long Sunday wants a dummy battery, or the camera dies mid-service.
- Cam Link Pro (desktop, Windows, four inputs): a trained volunteer and a tower PC. Not a first-Sunday laptop plan.
Standout details
Facts from the Elgato US Cam Link 4K and Cam Link Pro pages (fetched 2026-09-22). Prefer those spec tables and FAQs. Newegg’s bullets still say 4K at 30 fps. That marketplace copy is older than Elgato’s current spec table.
- Cam Link 4K (retail SKU 10GAM9901, GTIN 10843591022726, EAN 0843591022729): HDMI to USB. The spec table input is HDMI (unencrypted). Supported resolutions: 4K60 (MJPG only), 4K30, 1080p60, 1080p30, 720p60, 720p30, 576p50, 480p60. The box includes the dongle and a USB 3.0 A-to-C extension cable, 30 cm. Weight without the package is 0.02 kg. No drivers. Elgato names OBS Studio as a target app.
- Only the unit marked 20GAM9903 does 4K60. Elgato’s FAQ says earlier Cam Link 4K models are limited to 4K at 30 fps. The box SKU can still read 10GAM9901. Flip the dongle and read the model number if 4K60 matters.
- Elgato’s spec table lists that one HDMI input and does not list an HDMI output. There is no loop for a confidence monitor. Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus is the loop-out capture on this site.
- It does not charge the camera. Elgato suggests a dummy battery for a long session.
- Warranty on the FAQ: a two-year limited warranty in original packaging, and in the United States it is valid when you buy from Elgato.com or an Elgato-authorized reseller.
- Cam Link Pro (SKU 10GAW9901): four HDMI inputs, each a separate source in OBS. PCIe 2.0 x4 inside a desktop. Windows only. Not a laptop. Elgato listed $299.99 and Out of Stock on 2026-09-22. It is not dual HDMI. It is not the volunteer cart.
- This line does not replace Move SE. It sits after one HDMI output. It does not replace ATEM Mini.
- Status on this site uses words (recommend / hold / skip), not color-only cues.
Rechecked 2026-10-20: B&H listed the Cam Link 4K at $89.99 in stock.
Earlier check, 2026-09-22: Elgato.com Cam Link 4K $99.99 in stock (SKU 10GAM9901). Newegg $113.36 in stock, sold by NothingButSavings, and $114.15 in stock, sold by antonline. Neither offer is sold by Newegg. Cam Link Pro $299.99, out of stock on Elgato. B&H, Sweetwater, and Adorama returned HTTP 403. Amazon returned an automated-access block. Confirm the cart. Honest verdict
Hold. Buy ATEM Mini Pro ISO when the room needs a cut-bus. Buy Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus when HDMI must enter a laptop and also loop to a monitor, or when you need a dedicated encoder.
Cam Link 4K ($89.99 at B&H on 2026-10-20) is the hold for one unencrypted HDMI into a laptop that already runs OBS, when a loop-out is not required. It is a companion to the Magewell capture path. It does not replace Pro ISO.
Skip Cam Link Pro for a church laptop. It is a four-input Windows desktop card, and Elgato listed it out of stock.
Skip the dongle if a USB webcam path already works and nobody is fighting the capture. That money belongs on a mic or a camera.
Honest limits: one HDMI, no cut-bus, no HDMI loop, no camera power, USB 3.0 and not a hub, unencrypted HDMI only, 4K60 only on unit 20GAM9903 and only as MJPG. Confirm the cart.
