ATEM Mini Extreme
Eight-HDMI step-up from Pro ISO. Hold unless the church truly has 5 to 8 HDMI sources and a trained volunteer.
Why this is here: the eight-HDMI step-up after ATEM Mini Pro ISO. It is not the default buy. It is not a camera.
Do we need Extreme? Most small churches do not. ATEM Mini Pro ISO is the usual buy: four HDMI inputs, record plus stream, a cut bus a substitute can hit after one rehearsal. That page stays recommend. This page is the hold for ATEM Mini Extreme and ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2.
This is not YoloBox Extreme. That is a different family, and it stays hold on the YoloBox page.
Who it is for
HDMI count and a trained volunteer, not the word Extreme. If you cannot name five to eight live HDMI sources, you are not this page.
| Sources / room | What you actually get | Fit |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 HDMI (PTZ, stage or locked camera, slides) | Four inputs on Pro ISO already cover it | Hold. Buy ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Do not step up. |
| 1 or 2 cameras already fine in OBS | A bigger cut bus you will not use | Skip. Stay in software, or stay on the Pro ISO hold for a one-camera room. |
| 5 to 8 HDMI, and a volunteer who has practiced | Extreme: 8 HDMI, program record, no ISO of the inputs | The only row where Extreme is the buy. The page verdict stays hold, because most rooms are not this row. |
| Same 5 to 8 HDMI, and you will re-edit all eight | Extreme ISO G2: ISO of 8, hardware fader, XLR combo, Thunderbolt, CFexpress | Still hold unless that ISO job is real and the list price is already in the budget. |
If you only buy one ATEM for a small church, buy the Pro ISO. Open that page first.
Volunteer skill
- Pro ISO cut bus: Sunday-viable after one rehearsal. That is the skill bar for the usual buy.
- Extreme (four chroma keyers, two DVEs, 16-way multiview): a trained volunteer, not the person who also runs lyrics and the pastor mic.
- Extreme ISO G2 (hardware fader, ISO of 8, Thunderbolt, 10G Ethernet to the card): same trained-volunteer bar, plus someone who will actually use the ISO files. A fader does not make a first-Sunday substitute safer.
Standout details
Facts from the Blackmagic ATEM Mini product page and tech specs (fetched 2026-09-22). Prefer the tech spec table when the product grid disagrees. B&H returned HTTP 403, so reseller carts are not a source for these facts.
- ATEM Mini Extreme (tech spec price $1,249): 8 HDMI inputs with re-sync, 2 HDMI program outputs, 2 USB-C, 1G Ethernet, program record to USB as H.264. No ISO of the inputs. Audio in is two 3.5 mm stereo jacks, not XLR. Up to 4 chroma keyers, 4 upstream keyers, 2 downstream keyers, 2 DVEs. Multiview can show 16 views, including a SuperSource window. The Extreme spec table has no SuperSource feature row. The product grid still says SuperSource. Confirm that word on the spec table before you buy Extreme for it.
- ATEM Mini Extreme ISO G2 (tech spec price $3,479, 2026-10-20): 8 HDMI inputs, 3 HDMI outputs, ISO record of all 8 inputs plus program, CFexpress plus USB-C record, Thunderbolt, 1G and 10G Ethernet, hardware fader. Audio is 2 XLR combo jacks with phantom power, plus MADI. Spec table lists SuperSource: 1. Same keyer and DVE class as Extreme.
- Both are HDMI only. No native SDI. SDI-only PTZs still need converters. Neither box replaces Move SE.
- Do not buy Extreme ISO G2 only to get XLR. Pro ISO plus a mixer is the usual pastor-mic path. Buy the G2 when you will use ISO of eight, the fader, and the extra I/O.
- Warranty on both spec tables: 1 year limited manufacturer warranty.
- The ATEM Mini page (prices checked 2026-09-05) is still the family page and the recommend. This page does not change that verdict.
- Status on this site uses words (recommend / hold / skip), not color-only cues.
Street prices, 2026-10-20, Blackmagic USA: Extreme $1,249, Extreme ISO G2 $3,479. Pro $445 and Pro ISO $585 were on the same page. B&H returned HTTP 403, so this page records no B&H price. Confirm the cart. No affiliate link on this page.
Honest verdict
Hold. Buy ATEM Mini Pro ISO unless the church truly has five to eight HDMI sources and a trained volunteer.
Extreme is the in-family step when that HDMI count is real and you do not need ISO of every input. Extreme ISO G2 is the further step when you will re-edit all eight, you want the bigger panel, and you can absorb the Blackmagic list. XLR, a fader, or the word Extreme are not reasons by themselves.
Skip both if you have one or two cameras in OBS and nobody is fighting the software switch. That money belongs on a camera or a mic. Four HDMI sources are a Pro ISO room, not an Extreme room. A second camera does not make you an eight-input church. Read when a small church should add a second camera and when to buy a hardware switcher before you open this cart.
Honest limits: HDMI only, no native SDI, 1 year warranty, Extreme audio is still 3.5 mm. This box does not replace Pro ISO, and it does not replace Move SE.
