MG-XU

recommend

A house mixer with stereo USB to the laptop. Recommend when you still need front-of-house mixing and a feed for the stream.

Why this is here: sixth and last pastor-audio SKU after BLX14/CVL, SLX-D, SM58, EW-D, and Scarlett. It is not a camera. It is not a switcher. It is not wireless. It is not a laptop-only interface.

A Yamaha MG-series analog mixer family with USB. Current XU bodies Yamaha USA lists are MG20XU, MG16XU, MG12XU, MG12XUK, MG10XU, and MG10XUF. The ones small churches actually buy are MG10XU, MG12XU, MG16XU, and (less often) MG20XU. For a typical small sanctuary that needs house mix plus a stereo dump into a laptop, the default board is MG10XU (4 mic/line combo, 3 stereo line, SPX FX, 24-bit / 192 kHz USB 2-in/2-out). Step up to MG12XU when 6 mic inputs, groups, or a second AUX are real.

This is the sanctuary mixer. Wireless lavs and the wired SM58 plug in here. USB is a stereo mix to the laptop, not a replacement for Scarlett when you already have a house mixer and only need interface I/O. It does not replace an ATEM Mini or YoloBox.

Who it is for

Start with need and channel count. How many mics must be live at once, and whether you already have a house mixer or a clean switcher audio path, is the useful number.

If you only buy one Yamaha USB mixer for a small church, buy MG10XU. Buy MG12XU when you already know you will run more than four mics or need groups.

Honest verdict

Recommend the MG10XU as the default USB mixer for a small church that still needs a house mix and a stereo dump into a laptop: four mic inputs, playback, SPX FX, about $295 at B&H (Guitar Center sale was about $251 this fetch).

Recommend MG12XU when five or six mics, groups, or a second AUX are real (about $365 to $430 depending on the cart). Recommend MG16XU only when that channel count is real. Hold / skip MG20XU as the default small-church buy. Hold / skip MG06X if the job is USB (it has no USB).

Skip MG-XU if you already have a house mixer and only need laptop I/O. That is Scarlett. Skip if the stream already leaves an ATEM Mini or YoloBox clean.

This does not replace BLX14/CVL, SLX-D, EW-D, or SM58. Those feed the mixer.

Honest limits: USB is stereo mix only (not multitrack), no scene recall, Windows needs a driver, MG10XU lives on a wall wart, and you still need mics and a path into the stream. This board does not replace a camera or a switcher.
