BirdDog X1
NDI HX Wi-Fi PTZ. Hold for a small church. HDMI on Move SE is the Sunday path.
BirdDog’s P200 is no longer in manufacturing. The previous-lines page files it with the rest of the old P series: 1080p, 30x, full NDI, HDMI, and SDI on a gigabit port. Do not hunt a used P200 to get that cart back. Full NDI is a network. It is not a first Sunday.
The current small-church HD PTZ from this brand is the X1. This page is that camera. The X1 30x is the long-room sibling. Both stay hold.
The decision page for the protocol is When NDI is worth it for a small church. HDMI or SDI, plus presets, is the default. NDI can wait.
Who it is for
Seat count and room, not the NDI logo. BirdDog does not publish an official tracking distance. Optical zoom is the number you can trust.
| Body | What it actually is | Ports | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| X1 (BDX1B / BDX1W) | 1080p60, 20x, presenter tracking, NDI HX2 and NDI HX3 | HDMI, USB-C, network, Wi-Fi. No SDI. | The current HD body. Still a hold. |
| X1 30x (BDX1-30B / BDX1-30W) | 1080p60, 30x. The sensor cell says Ultra HD. The video formats on the comparison table are 1080p and 720p. | Same ports as the X1. No SDI. | Long room only, and only after you have read the table. Not a 4K camera. |
| X1 Ultra | 12x. 2160p at 30 fps on the comparison table. List price there is $1,495. | HDMI, USB-C, network, Wi-Fi. No SDI. | A different cart. Do not buy it because the name says X1. |
If you only buy one camera for a small church, buy a Move SE 20x. Buy an X1 only when a later reason on the NDI guide is already true, and someone owns the switch.
Volunteer skill
- HDMI into an ATEM Mini, or USB-C into a laptop running OBS: a Sunday volunteer can do that on a Move SE. The X1 can also speak HDMI and USB-C. You do not need this brand to get those ports.
- PoE plus NDI HX: 802.3af on the comparison table, and a 100 megabit Ethernet port, not gigabit. Someone has to own that switch on the morning it drops the picture. Not the first Sunday.
- Wi-Fi: the product page sells “no cables.” The NDI guide skips consumer Wi-Fi NDI. A home router, a mesh pod, or the church lobby radio is not an owner.
- Picking the body: X1, X1 30x, and X1 Ultra are different carts. A volunteer who cannot read the model out loud should not check out on Saturday night.
Presenter tracking is on the comparison table. There is no published distance. Set presets for wide, pulpit, and music stand. Tracking is a helper, not the plan.
Standout details
Facts from BirdDog’s X series comparison table, the X1 product page, the previous-lines page, and dealer carts (fetched 2026-09-22):
- X1: 1080p60. Sony 1/2.8 inch CMOS, 2.07 megapixels, labeled Full HD. Lens f=5.5 to 110 mm, F1.6 to 3.5. Horizontal field of view 55.8° wide to 3.2° tele. 20x optical. 255 presets. Pan ±175°, tilt -90° to +90°.
- X1 30x: 1080p60 on the same table, plus a 9:16 608x1080 mode. Sony 1/2.8 inch CMOS, 2.07 megapixels. The sensor cell says Ultra HD. The video format cell does not list 2160p. Lens f=5.2 to 148.4 mm, F1.3 to 4.8. Horizontal field of view 58.1° wide to 2.14° tele. 30x optical. Some dealer banners still say 4K or SDI. Match the table, not the banner.
- Outputs on both HD bodies: HDMI, USB-C (UVC), and network. Encoder protocols are NDI HX2, NDI HX3, SRT, RTSP, and RTMP. This is not full-bandwidth NDI. The old P200 was. Wi-Fi is 802.11ac. Ethernet is a 100 megabit adaptive port. PoE is 802.3af. DC 12V brick in the box. Max draw on the table is 13W.
- No 3G-SDI on the X1 or the X1 30x. SDI starts on later X bodies (X4 Ultra and up), at a higher list price, and those bodies are not this page.
- The X1 product page states a five-year global warranty on X-series cameras, for units purchased after 1 March 2023. Purchases before that date stay on the two-year default. That length matches Move SE. Warranty is not the reason to pick BirdDog.
- Iris, on the product page, is a browser account that puts the camera on the internet for remote control. That is another network. Not the first Sunday.
- Indoor. Black or white on the Markertek carts. Status on this site uses words, not color-only cues.
- The X120 is a limited leftover, not this camera. BirdDog’s X120 page says stock is not replenished, firmware updates stop, and coverage is dead-on-arrival only. Do not buy it as the current X1.
Rechecked 2026-10-20: B&H listed the X1 black (BDPX1B) at $895.00 in stock, unchanged.
Earlier check, 2026-09-22: comparison table X1 $995, X1 30x $1,195, X1 Ultra $1,495. Markertek X1 20x $895, black and white, in stock. Markertek X1 30x $995, black and white, with a 5 to 14 day ship note. VideoToybox black X1 20x $995, in stock. Aztek X1 30x $1,195, in stock, 3 available. B&H returned HTTP 403, so this page records no B&H price. Confirm the cart. No affiliate link on this page.
Honest verdict
Hold. The X1 is the clearest current BirdDog PTZ for a small church now that the P200 is out of manufacturing. It can put a 1080p picture on HDMI. It is not the camera to buy because the title says NDI, or because Wi-Fi means you can skip a cable.
Buy an X1 only if a later reason on the NDI guide is already true: no conduit and you will not pull another HDMI, several cameras would each need another long HDMI, or a managed network is already in the rack and a named person owns it. Even then, use HDMI into the ATEM Mini until that person has tested the port. Buy the X1 30x only when the camera sits far enough that 20x cannot fill a face, and the cart string says 30x, not Ultra.
Skip the X1 line if Sunday is one volunteer, one back-wall camera, and a cable you can label. That camera is the Move SE 20x. The Move SE page, prices checked 2026-10-20, shows the 20x at about $1,349. The X1 can ring up cheaper on the carts above. The cheaper cart does not take the network off your Sunday.
Skip Wi-Fi as the path. Skip a checkout that calls the 30x a 4K SDI camera. Skip a used P200 bought so the building can “start on full NDI.”
Pairs with the HDMI Sunday you already have: Move SE, ATEM Mini, and Active HDMI when the run is long. The side-by-side is Compare cameras.
