AVer CAM520 Pro3
Meeting-room PTZ. Hold for a sanctuary. 12x and a wide FOV are the wrong throw for a back-wall Sunday.
A Full HD PTZ built for a mid-to-large meeting room, not a sanctuary back wall. The original CAM520, the CAM520 Pro, and the CAM520 Pro2 are on AVer’s discontinued lists. The current body in that line is the CAM520 Pro3 (MFR COM520PR3).
Mount it in a conference room, plug USB into a laptop, and you get a 12x optical PTZ with HDMI and IP beside the USB port. SmartFrame, Preset Framing, and Smart Composition are meeting features. There is no 3G-SDI and no NDI. Do not buy a CAM520 because a search said “AVer PTZ” and you assumed it would replace a Move SE on the back wall.
Who it is for
Seat count and room, not the CAM520 name. AVer publishes a SmartFrame distance of about 22 feet. That is a meeting room. It is not an official sanctuary tracking distance.
| Placement / workflow | What you actually get | Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Classroom, lobby overflow, or a hybrid Zoom room | 12x optical, about 80.5° diagonal FOV, USB plug-and-play, SmartFrame to about 22 ft | Possible if the room is a meeting space and the job is Zoom or Teams, not a sanctuary livestream. |
| Back wall of a typical small sanctuary, one-person Sunday stream | 12x optical from a wide conference lens. No published back-wall tracking distance. No SDI, no NDI | Wrong tool. Buy a Move SE 20x. |
| One volunteer who only knows Teams / Zoom / Meet on a laptop | USB Type-B into the laptop, UVC plug-and-play | Fine for that laptop meeting. Still not a production switcher camera. |
If the plan is “mount it on the back wall and stream the sermon,” skip the CAM520 Pro3. That job is a 20x optical PTZ.
Volunteer skill
- USB into a laptop running Zoom, Teams, Meet, or OBS: a Sunday volunteer who can plug in a cable. Easiest CAM520 Pro3 path. The cable in the box is a USB 2.0 Type-B to Type-A, about 16 ft. The port itself is USB 3.1.
- HDMI into a room display, or IP (RTSP/RTMP) on the RJ45: someone comfortable with a second output. The product page says HDMI, USB, and IP can run together at 1080p60. That still does not make it a sanctuary production camera.
- IR remote or VISCA over RS-232 / IP: 10 presets on the remote, 128 via VISCA. Fine for a meeting room. Not the set-three-presets Sunday a Move SE is bought for.
- Buying the right body: CAM520 Pro3 (COM520PR3) is the current cart. CAM520, CAM520 Pro, and CAM520 Pro2 are discontinued. CAM550 and CAM570 are different current names on the same AVer support page. Do not check out on one of those because the search said CAM520.
Standout details
Facts from AVer’s CAM520 Pro3 specification, product page, datasheet, and the USA support page (fetched 2026-09-22). Prefer the specification table where the product page disagrees.
- Hero body: CAM520 Pro3 (MFR COM520PR3). 1080p60. Sony super-low-light 8 megapixel sensor. The output list is 1920x1080 and lower. It is not a 4K camera.
- Lens: f=3.9 mm wide to 46.8 mm tele, F1.6 to F2.8. Field of view 80.5° diagonal, 72.8° horizontal, 44.1° vertical. Minimum focus 1 m. That wide horizontal angle is a conference lens.
- Zoom on the specification table: 36x total (12x optical). AVer says to use PTZApp 2 to turn on 36x. The product page also claims 24x lossless zoom and “up to 70 feet.” The specification table does not publish a tracking distance. Trust 12x optical, not the 70-foot line.
- SmartFrame, on the product page, centers participants out to about 22 ft, including people wearing masks. Preset Framing follows a presenter inside zones you set. Smart Composition crops up to 9 people. Those are meeting-equity tools.
- Pan ±170°. Tilt +90° up and -30° down. 10 camera presets on the remote. 128 preset points via VISCA. Pelco-P and Pelco-D over RS-232. VISCA over IP. Web UI in Chrome. PTZApp 2.
- Outputs: HDMI 1.4, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-B (UVC 1.1; UVC 1.5 needs a firmware upgrade from support), and IP (RJ45) with H.264 RTSP and RTMP. PoE+ is 802.3at, or the 12V/2A brick. A PoE (802.3af) drop that runs a Move SE can leave this camera dark.
- No 3G-SDI. No NDI. Compatible-application list on the spec is Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, vMix, Wirecast, and other meeting apps.
- In the box: camera, remote, USB 2.0 cable (16 ft), power adapter (10 ft), wall-mount bracket, 1/4 inch tripod screw, Mini DIN9 to Mini DIN8 RS-232 adapter. A USB 3.1 cable and a ceiling mount are optional.
- Warranty on the specification table: camera 3 years, accessories 1 year. The product page adds a first-year advanced replacement, 72 hours, for the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. Shorter than the five-year Move SE story.
- Discontinued, on the AVer USA support page fetched the same day: CAM520, CAM520 Pro, and CAM520 Pro2. The global discontinued USB list also names CAM520 and CAM520 Pro. Do not hunt a used CAM520 to get a current cart.
- Indoor. Status on this site uses words (recommend / hold / skip), not color-only cues.
Rechecked 2026-10-20: B&H listed the CAM520 Pro3 (COM520PR3) at $1,439.99 in stock.
Earlier check, 2026-09-22: CDW $1,448.99, in stock. Creation Networks $1,439.99, backordered. AVer’s product page showed no street price. B&H returned HTTP 403, so this page records no B&H price. Confirm the cart. No affiliate link on this page.
Honest verdict
Hold. A competent mid-to-large-room conference PTZ. The wrong shape of camera if you came here shopping for a set-and-forget sanctuary PTZ.
Buy the CAM520 Pro3 only if the room is a classroom, lobby, or staff huddle, people sit close enough for a wide conference lens, and the job is USB Teams, Zoom, or Meet. Skip if you need 20x from the back wall, 3G-SDI, NDI, or a five-year PTZ warranty. That money belongs on Move SE 20x (the Move SE page, prices checked 2026-10-20, shows the 20x at about $1,349).
Do not confuse an “AVer CAM520” recommendation in a Facebook thread with a sanctuary shopping list. 12x and an 80° field of view look fine across a board table and fall apart when the pastor is thirty feet away. Logitech Meetup is the same kind of miss: a meeting camera pressed into a Sunday it was not built for. This one has real optical zoom and HDMI. It is still a meeting camera.
Compared with Move SE 20x: you pay more on the carts above, you get SmartFrame and a USB meeting path, and you give up the 20x back-wall body, simultaneous HDMI plus SDI plus USB plus IP, NDI HX3, and a five-year warranty. If nobody is sitting in a huddle and you need a sermon close-up, buy the PTZ.
Pairs with the Sunday you already have: Move SE, ATEM Mini, and BLX14/CVL. The side-by-side is Compare cameras.
