Canon Vixia
A handheld 4K camcorder line, not a wall PTZ. Current buy is the VIXIA HF G70. The older HF G50 is the body a lot of church volunteers still name in Facebook groups; it is EOL and no longer sold new at major US dealers on this fetch.
Tripod on the back wall, zoom the pastor with the ring or rocker, feed HDMI or USB-C into a laptop or switcher. There is no remote pan/tilt, no VISCA presets, and no auto-tracking like a Move SE. Do not buy a Vixia because a search said “church camera” and you assumed it was a PTZ.
Who it is for
Seat count and room, not marketing names. Optical zoom is 20x. That is real glass. It is still a camcorder a person has to operate (or leave locked on a wide shot).

If the plan is “mount it and walk away,” skip Vixia. That job is a PTZ.
Volunteer skill
- USB-C UVC into a laptop running OBS: a Sunday volunteer who can plug in a cable. Easy video path. Audio does not ride USB on Canon’s UVC path — plan a separate mic into the laptop or switcher.
- Mini-HDMI into a capture card or switcher: someone who already runs that chain. Clean HDMI is the usual Sunday path.
- Handheld or shoulder style with face AF: a volunteer who is willing to stand at the camera. This is not “set three VISCA presets and leave.”
- Buying the right body: G70 is the current VIXIA. G50 is discontinued new. XA60 / XA65 are the pro siblings with XLR handles — different cart and more money.

- Hero body: VIXIA HF G70 (MFR 5734C002). Successor shape to HF G50 (MFR 3667C002). Same 1/2.3 inch UHD 4K CMOS and DIGIC DV 6 family story as the G50, with a larger 3.5 inch capacitive touch LCD, a higher-res tiltable 0.36 inch OLED EVF, MP4-only recording, and USB-C UVC livestreaming.
- Zoom: Canon 20x optical in 4K. About 29.3–601 mm (35mm equivalent) with Dynamic IS off / Standard IS on in 4K per Canon; about 30.5–627 mm in Full HD on the same note. Digital zoom marketing goes to 800x — ignore that for sanctuary work.
- Video: up to UHD 4K30. Full HD up to 60p on the family compare sheets. Dual SD card slots (simultaneous backup / relay on Canon copy).
- Stabilization: 5-axis Dynamic IS. Built-in ND filters on Canon marketing. Eight-blade circular iris.
- I/O that matters on Sunday: mini-HDMI out, USB-C for HD UVC to a PC or Mac (optional Canon USB-C cable; audio over USB is not supported), mic input on the camcorder body, headphone monitoring on the usual VIXIA layout. No XLR on G70. No 3G-SDI. No NDI. No PoE.
- Autofocus: advanced hybrid / Dual Pixel-style face detection and tracking on Canon copy. Useful when a volunteer is riding zoom. Not a substitute for a PTZ preset.
- EOL trap: B&H search for HF G50 returned No Longer Available for new bodies on this fetch (accessories and similar items only). Do not plan a new-build cart around G50.
- Pro step-up, not this page’s hero: Canon XA60 (and XA65 with SDI) — same general 20x 4K camcorder idea plus detachable handle with dual XLR, higher street price (B&H about $1,899 on recent dealer boards). Buy XA only if you need those XLRs. Still not a PTZ.

Honest verdict
Hold. A solid 20x 4K camcorder for a volunteer who will actually operate it, or for a fixed tripod shot with HDMI/UVC into OBS. It is the wrong shape of camera if you came here shopping for a set-and-forget sanctuary PTZ.
Buy a G70 only if you already prefer camcorder ergonomics, need face AF on a tripod or handheld, and accept that someone frames the shot (or you leave it wide). Skip if you need remote pan/tilt, VISCA presets, NDI, SDI, or PoE — that money belongs on Move SE 20x (about $1,099 on the last Move SE fetch) or a budget 20x PTZ.
Do not buy a used G50 just because the Facebook group still says “Vixia.” Confirm the G70 cart, or step to XA60 only for XLR.
UVC is handy for a laptop Sunday. Plan audio separately. HDMI plus a real mic path is the boring reliable chain.
Compared with Move SE 20x: you pay similar or more, you get camcorder AF and a familiar handheld body, and you give up remote PTZ, presets, simultaneous HDMI+SDI+USB+IP, PoE, and a five-year PTZOptics-style warranty story. If nobody is standing at the camera, buy the PTZ.
